Halloween: Australia

Hey people! Trick or treat! Happy Halloween! Should I say happy although not all of yous are happy? What are yous dressing up as? Wait, you’re not dressing up? Good on ya! You’re one step closer to being an Aussie.

How, you ask? Well, the Land Down Under where Kangaroos live does not have any extraordinary Halloween traditions! The oh-so-famous trick or treating? It is not that popular here. Halloween parties are often celebrated but trick or treating and celebrating Halloween is often referred to as an “unwanted American influence”.

It’s boring, I know. However, people still dress up during Halloween! They go to Halloween parties and do who-knows-what. Scare each other, probably? And of course, get drunk. Australia may not have any tradition that the whole country celebrates because "it's American", but there are still a large percentage of people who try and make their All Hallows Evening great by doing the oh-so-famous, drum rolls please!!! Trick or treating!

Yeah. That is what Australians do for Halloween. Pretty boring when you compare it to the Philippines, right? Those Halloween parties with the person who has the best costume will win money, the kids dressed up as scary witches ringing your doorbell simultaneously just to have some lollies, those scary decorations inside villages that make everything scarier than how it should really be and of course, the visiting of the graves in the cemetery to pay respect to the people who have gone to the other side of life... Those things are what Australia doesn't have and Philippines will always have a better Halloween celebration than the Kangaroos.

Happy Halloween guys!
