Halloween: USA

The day of spooks and screams... I bet everybody knows that October 31st is the day of All Hallows' Evening or in short, Halloween. This holiday is in fact very popular in the United States. However, believe it or not, there are countries around the world where a very minimal number of people celebrate it or even not celebrate it at all. Of course that's not applicable here in the US. These well-known traditions are as follows:

TRICK-OR-TREAT
This customary celebration is mostly practiced by children, but that doesn't mean it's not available to other ages either. It's very simple. People dress up in costumes, haunting or not, and go from one house to another, asking for treats. As you knock, you usually ask the question "trick or treat?". Treat refers to the treat, like candies or chocolate. State the obvious. On the other side, trick is the supposedly "consequence" homeowners get if you don't give the children some treat.

JACK-O-LANTERNS
Jack-O-Lanterns are usually used a design in houses when the time of Halloween comes. People get their pumpkins, scoop out the insides, and carve it. You will usually see these carved pumpkins with atrocious faces. Afterward, the inside is lit with a candle. Where do the insides that you scooped out go? Well, you could look for a recipe of a pumpkin pie. You won't just satisfy the look of your house, but also your empty stomachs.

HAUNTED ATTRACTIONS
This isn't really a tradition, I suppose, yet a lot of people just loves to visit haunted houses or scary attractions during Halloween. Of course this is only for those who are brave enough to scare themselves. I know I'm not. One very popular attraction is Fear Farm here in Arizona. If I was one of the people asked to go there, I would not have any second thoughts of saying no.

This holiday is not just to terrify people around, but it's actually a holiday of fun! Most of the population celebrates it every year. You don't really need to participate in every tradition, but at least practice one to show some spirit. I swear, if you live here in the United States, you would have to spend money on candies to give out. You don't want to be tricked, do you?
